Confederated Tribes Content Strategy Proposal

Overview

The Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes (CSKT) expressed a need for a new website which represents this rich community and its stunning lands. An analysis of the current state of cskt.org found that the website falls flat compared to the community that it serves. A number of search engine optimization and accessibility issues prevent the website from meeting the needs of its users while a cumbersome navigation structure makes it difficult to use.

This proposal seeks to address these issues and propose a strategy that positions the website and the community for success. A detailed analysis of the organization’s goals and its users’ needs served as the basis for a robust content strategy which aims to satisfy both parties. A competitive analysis, core strategy, content design plan, and style guide are also included.

Content Alignment

Based on the information provided by the CSKT and an analysis of the existing website, the organizational goals can be aligned with the corresponding content objectives.

An in-depth analysis of the site revealed that the existing content was misaligned with organizational goals. Additionally, several architecture, accessibility, and search engine optimization issues were identified.

Core Strategy Statement

To make cskt.org meet the needs of the various audiences of CSKT–from current members to elected officials, tourists and visitors, future residents, employees, and more–we will provide thorough yet streamlined content that allow users to quickly and easily find information, complete necessary tasks, and become engaged with the tribal community.

Proposed Content Design

The content model and sitemap below can be used to visualize the proposed structure of the website content. In an effort to streamline the website, the main navigation has been reorganized to better serve the users of the site. Sample wireframes of core pages have also been developed to demonstrate how key pieces of content will be presented on the website.
